Chloe Therapy Dog

Dr. Della Valle and his wife Justyna’s dog Chloe has been certified as a therapy dog.

Patients who would like the opportunity to visit with Chloe while in the hospital can request a visit by calling us at 708-236-2738. We will do our best to accommodate.

Research has show that the use of therapy dogs has a positive effect on patients’ pain level and satisfaction with hospital stay after total joint replacement. Click here for the abstract of a recent study.

Dr. Della Valle elected to Board of Directors for Three Organizations

Orthopedic organizationsDr. Della Valle was recently elected to the board of directors for three organizations.

  • He was elected to the board of directors of the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association as Member at Large.
  • He was also recently elected to the board of directors of the Knee Society as Member at Large.
  • Dr. Della Valle was also elected to the board of directors of the Hip Society as Secretary.

New Partial Knee Replacement Video

Orthopedics This WeekOrthopedics This Week announced the Top 22 North American Knee Surgeons and Dr. Craig Della Valle was again included in the elite list.

According to Orthopedics This Week, Dr. Della Valle’s peers have this to say about him, “He is not only a super surgeon, but he is a tremendous researcher who has done superb work on hip and knee reconstruction. He has taken issues such as infected and painful joint replacement and developed algorithms that advance the field.”

Dr. Della Valle named one of the top five hip replacement doctors

Dr. Craig Della Valle, hip and knee specialist, was named in the top five doctors in the country for hip replacement by Expertscape, a medical search and ranking solution that uses objective algorithms to identify the most knowledgeable and experienced doctors and medical institutions in the country. Expertscape defines an expert as someone who has published peer-reviewed research on complications and treatments for a specific medical condition. The ranking firm also honored Rush University Medical Center for being among the nation’s top six medical facilities for hip replacement.

Dr. Della Valle also was named one of the “Top 22 North American Knee Surgeons” by Orthopedics This Week magazine. The editors said, “He is not only a super surgeon, but he is a tremendous researcher who has done superb work on hip and knee construction.”

Dr. Della Valle participates in knee replacement study

Dr. Della Valle recently participated in a study that measured patient satisfaction after a total knee replacement vs a partial knee replacement. The study found that patients were more satisfied with partial knee replacements.

Dr. Della Valle writes, “The data are impressive as were the scientific methods to collect them. Given the importance of patient satisfaction to both those undergoing knee replacement as well as their surgeons, it is a further compelling reason to consider partial knee replacement in patients who are candidates for the procedure.”

Dr. Della Valle receives two prestigious awards at AAOS Annual Meeting

Craig Della ValleDr. Della Valle received two awards at this year’s AAOS Annual Meeting.

Dr. Della Valle and Mr. Paul Yi were given The Hip Society Stinchfield Award and Dr. Della Valle and Mr. Matt Tetreault were given The Knee Society Ranawat Award for outstanding contributions to orthopedic research.

For the Stinchfield Award, Dr. Della Valle and Yi researched the diagnosis of infection following hip replacement surgery. They submitted a paper entitled, “Diagnosis of Periprosthetic Joint Infection in the Early Post-Operative Period Following Total Hip Arthroplasty”.

For the Ranawat Award, Della Valle’s submission was entitled, “Should Prophylactic Antibiotics Be Withheld Prior to Revision Hip and Knee Arthroplasty to Obtain Appropriate Cultures?” Dr. Della Valle and Mr.Tetreault, along with colleagues at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, researched the effects of antibiotics when given to a patient before his or her hip or knee revision procedure.

In addition to these awards, Dr. Della Valle and his associates presented 11 additional scientific presentations and one scientific exhibit. The exhibit was acknowledged as one of the twenty best of the 2013 AAOS Annual Meeting.
